The values that define Byron Center athletics are encapsulated in our mission statement are excellence, teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication, community, and service. As a person who epitomizes our mission statement, in 2024 the Byron Center Sports Boosters Scholarship was renamed to the Larry Wood Sports Booster Scholarship.
The Larry Wood Sports Booster Scholarship is given annually and is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete. The scholarship will be awarded to the individuals who most clearly demonstrate strengths in the areas of leadership, sportsmanship, and dedication to the sport and team. The scholarship recipients will both receive $2000. It is intended to be used for post-secondary education-related expenses. If you are a recipient and plan on continuing in a sport at an NCAA-recognized college, you may need to declare this scholarship when completing your financial award notices.
Applicants must meet the following qualifications, The student-athlete must:
Be a graduating senior planning on attending college or post-secondary education/vocational certificate programs, skilled trade certification programs
Have been a varsity team member in good standing
Display school spirit at sporting events throughout the school year
Have a minimum 2.5 GPA
Not have had any disciplinary suspensions during their high school career
Provide a letter of recommendation from a coach or teacher and complete this form in its entirety and attach additional pages if necessary. The deadline to submit this application is May 15, 2025 by the end of the school day. The Scholarship Selection Committee comprised of Executive Sports Booster Board Members and Byron Township Trustees. The committee will review all qualified applicant submissions and select the winners. The winners will be announced at the annual Byron Center Athletic Honors Event.
